Free OSM Dark & Light basemaps

Map gauges get free built-in OSM Dark and OSM Light basemaps, optional CARTO styles with your own key, and no more CARTO watermark or tile seams.

Added
  • Free built-in OSM Dark and OSM Light map basemaps (no API key needed) — now the default for new map gauges.
  • CARTO Dark / CARTO Light basemaps with your own CARTO API key — enter and verify it right under the Basemap picker in the Inspector.
  • --carto-key option in the CLI exporter.
Fixed
  • Map gauges no longer show CARTO’s “API KEY REQUIRED” watermark (CARTO started requiring a key); projects saved with a CARTO style render the free equivalent until a key is added.
  • Faint seam lines between map tiles.
v0.5.2

Reliable subscription activation

GaugeReel now refreshes your license automatically after checkout and keeps checking while payment confirmation arrives.

Improved
  • Clearer checkout confirmation and retry messages, with paid access retained through temporary connection errors.
Fixed
  • Purchased plans activate automatically when you return to the app or website, with confirmation retries that continue after restarting the app.
  • Payment notifications no longer hide a valid paid plan, and desktop accounts can restore licenses without first choosing a public username.
  • Website support links now use zoniixyt@gmail.com.
v0.5.1

Safer telemetry & universal macOS build

More reliable parsing, safer exports, cleaner gauge layouts, and one complete release path for Windows plus a universal macOS installer.

Improved
  • Universal macOS installer support for both Apple silicon and Intel, with Windows and macOS published together from one verified release.
Fixed
  • Telemetry parsing now handles out-of-order samples, partial distance data, GPS jitter, malformed GPX comments and oversized GPMF values safely.
  • Export and imported-profile safeguards now reject unsafe paths, invalid numeric data, oversized draw programs and unsafe embedded images.
  • Gauge rendering edge cases now stay inside their boxes, including small or degenerate gauges, dense dial labels, pace formatting, charts and zone layouts.
v0.5.0

Community profiles gallery

Share complete gauge profiles with the GaugeReel community — publish your own setup straight from the app, then browse, filter and download anyone else’s to build from. Plus one-tap Google sign-in.

Added
  • Community profiles gallery on the web — browse gauge profiles shared by other creators, filtered by activity and sorted by newest or most popular, each with a live preview thumbnail and download count.
  • Publish a profile from the app — share a complete gauge layout to the gallery in one step, with an auto-captured preview image so others can see the overlay before they download it.
  • Download any shared profile as a portable .overlayprofile.json and import it into GaugeReel to start from someone else’s setup.
  • Sign in with Google — one-tap Google sign-in alongside email, both in the app and on the website.
v0.4.1

Heart-rate & power zone gauges

A new family of training-zone gauges for heart rate and power, much faster ProRes 4444 export on Apple silicon, and a tidier two-column layout for the Project and Export tabs.

Added
  • Heart-rate and power zone gauges (Basic) — a dedicated zone family in four styles, from minimal to rich: Zone Pills, Zone Meter, Zone Arc and Zone Dashboard. Set your own zone boundaries, colours and labels; the active zone drives every highlight so the live zone always stands out.
Improved
  • ProRes 4444 .mov export now uses Apple’s media engine (VideoToolbox) on macOS for roughly 5× faster GPU encoding, with a new Precision control (16-bit or 8-bit) and true straight alpha so semi-transparent overlays keep their real colour. Falls back to the software encoder elsewhere.
  • Two-column Project and Export tabs — related controls now share rows for a tighter layout, and smoothing plus interpolation are merged into a single Sampling control (Nearest / Linear / Smoothed).
Fixed
  • Tape gauge labels stay legible — tick spacing widens so numbers no longer collide, and the centred readout shrinks to fit so values like “0.9 km/h” don’t clip.
v0.4.0

DaVinci Resolve export & showcase instruments

Send a finished overlay straight onto your DaVinci Resolve timeline, design with a new set of faithful showcase instruments, follow the road ahead in a 3D chase-cam route view, and frame map gauges as a circle or rectangle.

Added
  • Send to DaVinci Resolve (Premium) — push the finished overlay onto your open Resolve timeline as ProRes 4444 clips with a real alpha channel, each gauge on its own track or as one combined layer, appended above your footage without overwriting it. Works on free and Studio Resolve via a one-time bridge install — no Python, no network.
  • Showcase instruments — a set of faithful, self-contained gauge styles: a sport speed dial, power ring, heading compass, g-force plot, artificial horizon and live signal trace.
  • 3D chase-cam route gauge — an angled, heading-up view of the road ahead that recedes toward the horizon like an in-car navigation view. Fully offline, no map tiles.
  • Frame shapes for route and map gauges — render them as a circle, rounded rectangle or sharp rectangle.
Improved
  • Selection bounds now hug each gauge’s actual artwork instead of its padded box, so edge and gauge-to-gauge alignment snaps to what you can really see.
v0.3.0

Per-gauge animation timeline

Animate any gauge over time with a premium keyframe timeline, browse a live animated gauge gallery, and size value markers exactly how you want — plus sharper, better-fitting gauge readouts.

Added
  • Premium per-gauge animation timeline — keyframe a gauge’s properties over time for intros, reveals and emphasis, with timing presets in absolute seconds.
  • Animated gauge gallery in the library — preview every gauge live, cycling through styles, before you add it.
  • Adjustable marker size on value-in-range gauges, so the indicator reads clearly at any scale.
Improved
  • Resizable timeline editor — drag its height to give animation work more room.
Fixed
  • Gauge readout text now fits its box instead of overflowing when heavily styled.
  • Tape-gauge tick labels match the configured step precision.
v0.2.3

Multi-select editing & web sign-in

Arrange several gauges at once with snap-to-align, sign in and manage your plan from the website, and compare GaugeReel head-to-head on the Plans page.

Added
  • Multi-select on the stage — shift/⌘-click to grab several gauges, then move and resize them as a group.
  • Alignment snap guides while dragging: gauges snap to the canvas centre, edges, and to each other.
  • In-app performance comparison on the Plans page — render time and memory vs the leading alternative.
Improved
  • Sign in and manage your subscription from the GaugeReel website in a browser, not just the desktop app.
v0.2.1

Accounts, plans & GPU export

GaugeReel gets its name, a three-tier plan system with offline licensing, and GPU hardware encoding for everyone.

Added
  • Rebrand to GaugeReel, with a Plans page and Basic-tier route gauges.
  • Three-tier subscriptions (Free / Basic / Premium), accounts, and offline Ed25519 licensing.
Improved
  • GPU hardware encode is now enabled on every tier.
Fixed
  • Correct video duration and NTSC frame-rate handling on export.
  • Allow the localhost dev origin so account creation works in development.
v0.2.0

Fast export pipeline & gauge library

A parallel GPU/worker export pipeline, a personal gauge library, geocoded place lookups, and a headless render CLI.

Added
  • GPU / worker-pool export pipeline for dramatically faster renders.
  • Personal gauge library — save, import and reuse your own gauges.
  • Geocoded places and a headless command-line renderer for automation.
Improved
  • Foundations for billing, accounts and licensing.
v0.1.0

First release

The initial sports telemetry/data overlay desktop app: real telemetry parsing, the gauge engine, activity profiles and transparent export.

Added
  • Rust telemetry core parsing GPX, Garmin FIT and GoPro GPMF-in-MP4.
  • Canvas 2D gauge rendering engine shared by preview and export.
  • Runner, Walker, Cyclist and Car/Moto activity profiles.
  • OpenStreetMap / CARTO map tiles with offline disk caching, plus vector mode.
  • Transparent overlay export as a PNG image sequence with alpha.
