Your editor, now in the browser

Premium brings the shared GaugeReel editor to the web, with local files, saved projects and mobile layouts. Desktop gains new activity gauges and official looks.

When you preview a paid gauge or style, GaugeReel now shows the plan that exports it and everything else that plan adds, as live, moving previews. Per-lap and Season recap exports also get a stricter plan check.

Laps, recaps and a new-look editor

A redesigned editor with five new gauge styles, lap timing from VBO and CSV files, a Season recap, and annual plans and an Event Pass. Free users can now try every paid gauge and style in the preview before upgrading.

  • Five new gauge styles: vario, incline, zone readout, climb profile and GPS radar.
  • Lap timing (Premium): import VBO and RaceBox / RaceChrono / AiM CSV files, set a start/finish line at the playhead, and add lap timer, delta-to-best and lap list gauges. Export the best lap or every lap as separate clips.
  • Season recap (Premium): turn a season of activities into a shareable MP4 summary.
  • Annual plans for Basic and Premium, plus a one-off Event Pass.
  • Watch folder (Basic): drop recordings into a folder and GaugeReel builds draft projects for you.
  • Social presets for 9:16, 4:5 and 1:1, with a Reels safe-zone overlay in the View menu.
  • One-click timestamp sync between your video and telemetry, a timezone fix, and Trim to clip.
  • Drag and drop GPX, FIT, VBO, CSV and video files straight onto the window to import them.
  • Anonymous usage stats to show us which features get used. They use a random install ID and never include your account, files, GPS or email. Turn them off in the Account menu.

  • Free users can preview paid gauges and styling. A tier tag marks each paid item, and a check before export lists what will be left out. The plain route line is now free.
  • UI overhaul: every panel, the Inspector, timeline and export flow were reviewed, with 124 layout and usability fixes. Switching style resizes the gauge to fit.
  • Every gauge style was reviewed, with 50 rendering fixes. Duplicate and mismatched styles were removed from the lists, and projects that already use them still open.
  • Vertical (9:16) projects now scale gauges and zone thresholds the same as landscape ones.
  • Manage subscription in the app: pause, change plan or cancel.

Stability and polish

Fixes and polish across the editor, timeline, export, Send to Resolve, account sign-in and the telemetry importers. No new tiers or prices.

Improved
  • Export only goes live once ffmpeg is found and the project’s video exists; locked gauges are called out with a one-click “Hide them”, and Cancel reports how many frames were already written.
  • Inspector: picking a locked style opens Plans instead of turning the gauge into a placeholder; only rows that apply to the selected style are shown; Tape honours “Show unit”; value size works on every style.
  • CLI: even-dimension, --bg, --in and --duration validation; failed encodes don’t leave a 0-byte file; Ctrl-C always reports frames written.
Fixed
  • Applying a profile or library gauge re-fits its clips to the current project length, so a 60 s overlay no longer vanishes 60 s into a 5-minute video.
  • Profiles and the gauge library are validated on load — a hand-edited file can’t blank the app. New / Open reset export size and missing-video state; re-picking a moved video works.
  • Timeline: In/Out edits never invert, resizing keeps fade-outs, clip stacking matches playback, colour-keyframe drags are one undo step, named/hsl colours interpolate correctly.
  • Telemetry: recordings with several points per second but whole-second timestamps now derive full speed (previously up to 50% low); HR-only or GPS-lock-less files no longer list a fake zero speed/distance.
  • Send to Resolve: layers follow z-order, crops cover slide/wiggle/scale motion, bridge updates restart the running script, cancel returns promptly without duplicating tracks.
  • Account: switching server URL signs out instead of forwarding the token; restore reports honestly; a second subscription can’t be created at checkout; publish thumbnails are re-encoded under the size cap.

Burn gauges into your video

Basic and Premium can now export a finished video with the gauges composited onto your footage — synced exactly as in the preview, original audio kept — as H.264 MP4 or ProRes 422 HQ MOV. Effects now render on macOS, plus a large stability pass across the app, backend, CLI and account server.

  • New export format “Gauges on your video” (Basic+): composites the gauges onto your loaded footage and writes one finished file with the original audio — no editor needed.
  • Burn-in container choice: H.264 MP4 (small, shareable) or ProRes 422 HQ MOV (editor-grade).
  • Bitrate control for H.264 exports (MP4 and burn-in, 25 Mbps default); GPU encoding toggle applies to burn-in too.
  • Sync tracks under the preview: the video and each telemetry file as timeline lanes — drag a telemetry clip to line its speed trace up with the footage.
  • Portrait exports: the tier size cap is orientation-aware (1080 × 1920 on Free/Basic). Account: restore a purchase and forgot-password flow.

  • Correct BT.709 colour tags on every export container (MP4, ProRes, WebM) in the app and CLI; MP4 faststart. Faster rendering with many gauges and map tiles.
  • Send to Resolve: ProRes layers, content-aware crop, drop-frame timecode, cancel with cleanup.
Fixed
  • Effects (blur, drop shadow/glow, colour adjust) now render on macOS; shadows are about 4.5× faster everywhere.
  • Project open round-trips large images, locks, off-canvas layouts, timelines and custom fonts; a bad gauge is skipped instead of failing the whole project. Duration changes no longer invert clips or strand fade-outs.

Map gauges get free built-in OSM Dark and OSM Light basemaps, optional CARTO styles with your own key, and no more CARTO watermark or tile seams.

Heart-rate & power zone gauges

A new family of training-zone gauges for heart rate and power, much faster ProRes 4444 export on Apple silicon, and a tidier two-column layout for the Project and Export tabs.

  • Heart-rate and power zone gauges (Basic) — a dedicated zone family in four styles, from minimal to rich: Zone Pills, Zone Meter, Zone Arc and Zone Dashboard. Set your own zone boundaries, colours and labels; the active zone drives every highlight so the live zone always stands out.

  • ProRes 4444 .mov export now uses Apple’s media engine (VideoToolbox) on macOS for roughly 5× faster GPU encoding, with a new Precision control (16-bit or 8-bit) and true straight alpha so semi-transparent overlays keep their real colour. Falls back to the software encoder elsewhere.
  • Two-column Project and Export tabs — related controls now share rows for a tighter layout, and smoothing plus interpolation are merged into a single Sampling control (Nearest / Linear / Smoothed).

  • Tape gauge labels stay legible — tick spacing widens so numbers no longer collide, and the centred readout shrinks to fit so values like “0.9 km/h” don’t clip.

Send a finished overlay straight onto your DaVinci Resolve timeline, design with a new set of faithful showcase instruments, follow the road ahead in a 3D chase-cam route view, and frame map gauges as a circle or rectangle.

  • Send to DaVinci Resolve (Premium) — push the finished overlay onto your open Resolve timeline as ProRes 4444 clips with a real alpha channel, each gauge on its own track or as one combined layer, appended above your footage without overwriting it. Works on free and Studio Resolve via a one-time bridge install — no Python, no network.
  • Showcase instruments — a set of faithful, self-contained gauge styles: a sport speed dial, power ring, heading compass, g-force plot, artificial horizon and live signal trace.
  • 3D chase-cam route gauge — an angled, heading-up view of the road ahead that recedes toward the horizon like an in-car navigation view. Fully offline, no map tiles.
  • Frame shapes for route and map gauges — render them as a circle, rounded rectangle or sharp rectangle.
